Discussion:
Syncronizing Issues - Getting Offline Address Book Error 0X8004010F
(too old to reply)

I am running Exhange 2003 and Outlook 2003. Recently, I switched two
users over to use Cached Mode so that they could run the Junk Mail
filters, among other things. Since then, both users have gotten sync
issue notifications everytime they send/receive. Here is the sync log:

11:31:59 Synchronizer Version 11.0.8000
11:31:59 Synchronizing Mailbox 'User'
11:31:59 Synchronizing Hierarchy
11:31:59 Synchronizing local changes in folder 'Inbox'
11:31:59 Uploading to server 'exchange.domain.com'
11:31:59 1 view(s)/form(s) updated in online folder
11:31:59 Downloading from server 'exchange.domain.com'
11:31:59 1 item(s) changed read-state in offline folder
11:31:59 Synchronizing server changes in folder 'Deleted Items'
11:31:59 Downloading from server 'exchange.domain.com'
11:31:59 1 item(s) changed read-state in offline folder
11:31:59 Done
11:31:59 Microsoft Exchange offline address book
11:31:59 0X8004010F

Any ideas? I have rebuilt the Offline Address Book on the Exhchange
server, but that did not seem to help.

Thanks!

Did you try googling? This is a pretty common error.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905813

A lot of hits here:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=0X8004010F+outlook+2003+%22cached+mode%22

What antivirus software do you run on the server? Is it perhaps scanning
your Exchange folders (any of 'em)? I've seen issues with AV applications
quarantining the .oab files used by the offline address book generation.

Make sure you've got the correct exclusions set in Officescan on the
Exchange box.....I suspect this is the problem. It may be scanning folders
it's not supposed to - and the offline address book updates use .oab
attachments. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328841 is a good start.

I have still been unable to fix this problem. I can't find anywhere in
the Trend Officescan to set exclusions. Is this done through the Admin

Sorry I haven't written on this in so long.

I am running Trend Micro Client/Server/Messaging Suite - version 2.

I have gone in to the admin panel and set up exclusions for various
exchange and scan mail for exchange directories (According to a KB doc
I found on the Trend site), as well as the OAB file extension.

Will I need to restart exchange for this to take effect?

Okay, well, apparently adding the exlusions to the virus stuff didn't
have any affect on the problem.

One question...our main address book is set up as a public folder.
Would that have any affect on the problem? Is there a way I can point
the Default Offline Address Book to that public folder?

No; that's not what it's for. Did you call Trend as I suggested (presuming
you're still seeing oab files getting quarantined - visible in ESM when you
look at the items in the system folder for offline address books, which will
open in OWA)

You might need to try some more troubleshooting tips/fixes such as
recreating the OAB (create a new one & set it as default).

I have still been unable to fix this problem. I can't find
anywhere in the Trend Officescan to set exclusions. Is this done
through the Admin website?
Yes, but you really need to contact Trend if you can't find this
out for yourself (or on their support site).

We are running the Trend Micro Client/Server/Messaging
Suite.Make sure you've got the correct exclusions set in
Officescan on the
Exchange box.....I suspect this is the problem. It may be
scanning folders it's not supposed to - and the offline address
book updates use .oab
attachments.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328841isa good start.

I am running Exhange 2003 and Outlook 2003. Recently, I
switched two users over to use Cached Mode so that they could
run the Junk Mail filters, among other things. Since then,
both users have gotten sync issue notifications everytime they

Any ideas? I have rebuilt the Offline Address Book on the
Exhchange server, but that did not seem to help.
Thanks!Did you try googling? This is a pretty common error.

What antivirus software do you run on the server? Is it perhaps scanning
your Exchange folders (any of 'em)? I've seen issues with AV applications
quarantining the .oab files used by the offline address book generation.
