Can not delete mailbox

A few weeks back in order to keep our database within limits, I tried to
move a few mailboxes from one server to another, but one of the moves
failed.

Since then the User had various minor problems, such as the Rule Wizard kept
losing the rules. And when we tried to archive some items we got various
errors about object not found. Once we had all the important items archive,
the Properties (Outlook) of the mailbox showed a few KB and a couple of
items. But in Exchange System Manager the mailbox shows as 2,166 KB with
2,055 items.

I created another account for the user and deleted the old with instructions
to delete the mail box. Waited a few days, made sure the Backup did it's
thing and I have been wondering where the PURGE option has gone. In the past
after the grace period I got a purge option, so far none.

I think I have a messed up mailbox.

What other options do I have?

OK I lied, well to myself. Just checked some more and saw that the mailbox
in question has NOT been logged on to for a week and that was by the User.
The backup account (Backup Exec) should have logged on nightly, as other
boxes show.

So I just tried a backup of only this mailbox and it has failed (can not
find Directory) and Exchange System Manager still shows the last logon as
the user on Mar 28.

Well back to, "What options do I have?"
