(too old to reply)

I am not sure if this is the proper place to post this question but
here goes:

Have a server currently running Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise. I
need to find an email that may have been sent in 2006. I have two
backups that were run during that time frame. I need to some how
restore these backps in order to locate the email in question. I
believe that I was using Exchange 2000 server standard edition when
this email was generated. The two backups in question are in the
native Exchange backup format.

There is the background. I would like to some how restore from the old
backups but I do not want to affect my "production" email system. Can
anyone offer any advice on how to complete this task?

Thanks in advance....

Easy way is to use third party,

www.ontrack.com/powercontrols

Hard way is to setup offline recovery server to restore and export to pst
file,

Does it matter that the backups that I have were run on Exchange 2000
Std? I am currently on Exchange 2003 enterprise?

Depends, what method are you choosing to recover the emails?
